Almost all small dogs and large dogs follow the same way of thinking. If a pet owner understands the way that his or her pet thinks, it may be easier to train the animal. Read on to find out how to communicate better with a dog by using the information that provides some help.
A majority of dog bites can be attributed to a fearful dog. Fear biting occurs if a dog feels trapped, threatened, or frightened. Never use physical punishment as a way to discipline your dog. If you do, you may easily be bitten by your dog. A puppy is expecting you to be the leader of his pack and is anxious to please you.
Offer only your dog’s most favored treats when rewarding exceptionally good behavior, or when he accomplishes particularly difficult feats. A good example would be a normally forbidden treat, like little pieces of hotdogs or cheese.
Obedience Training
Dogs should be spayed or neutered around the age of six months. This is also a good time to begin obedience training classes. The dog will preform better in obedience training after they have been neutered or spayed. You will be able to better enjoy the time you have with your dog and they will be happy and healthy.
During your training sessions, you should keep a close eye on the time. Dog attention spans only go so far, so make sure not to go on too long. Limit the amount of time you train at first to less than 10 minutes.
When training your dog, always be sure that it feels safe. If your pet feels unsafe, it is more likely they will act out in a negative way. So this doesn’t happen, make sure your dog is always safe.
You can try a little bit of ingenuity if you are going with crate training for your indoor dog or puppy. If your dog does not want to go into the crate but one of his favorite toys inside and close the door. Your dog will get excited at the prospect of the treat and soon be eager to enter the crate. Praise your dog once he gets into the crate.
Do not try to train your dog if you do not feel you can be patient. Your dogs will respond to patience and will lose interest if they feel you are getting frustrated.
Dogs need routine, so feed your dog at the same time every day. This also helps with training. This allows you to know when your dog has to go and take him outside to do his business before your carpet gets ruined. Being consistent will teach the dog to hold it until it is time to go outside.
You will get the most of your pet training if you try to understand how your pet thinks. Through this improved comprehension, someone training a dog could learn to use only the most effective rewards and punishment. After understanding more about how different dogs think, the training process becomes much easier
